EEG- Brain Wave Activity

Question

My nine-year-old son had an EEG and an MRI done. The EEG revealed that his "brain waves are decreased." Nothing else was noted. Can you explain what this means?

Answer of our experts

Decreased amplitude of brain waves on the EEG may be a drug effect, eg, Tegretol. It is a benign finding, not at all uncommon in people with developmental problems. It does not imply seizures.

Seizures in individuals with CdLS should be treated using the general management schemes.

An MRI of the brain should be considered only if the individual with CdLS shows neurological signs other than microcephaly (smaller than normal head).
