Precocious Puberty

Question

My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with precocious puberty. Her physician is recommending Lupron depot. Has this been effective with other girls with CdLS?

Answer of our experts

Precocious puberty occurs typically before age 8 in girls. Regarding the treatment, Lupron depot is the only depot treatment (long-acting, pulsatile) used in the US for precocious puberty when the cause is related to the activation of hormones from the brain (hypothalamus/pituitary gland). The treatment prevents the growth spurt to improve final adult height, and also somewhat treats the early puberty symptoms. If your daughter is followed by a pediatric endocrinologist, then I think everything sounds appropriate. I am not aware of this treatment previously in CdLS
