Pain and Behaviour

For parents, caregivers, health care providers, and teachers, concerns and questions often arise regarding the care and well-being of individuals with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome.

Due to limited communicative abilities, individuals with CdLS may be unable to report pain and it may be difficult to identify the cause.

Pain in CdLS can lead to substantial behavioural difficulties.

As pain can easily remain unrecognised in a child with CdLS, all care providers should be aware of the different manifestations and the possible sources of pain. Specific tools to assess pain are recommended.
