Insomnia

Question

In the past three weeks, we have had to lock our 24-year-old son's door at night due to his destructive actions throughout the house during bouts of insomnia. His insomnia seems to happen on a cycle basis. Generally 2 to 4 weeks of insomnia, then approximately 1.5 weeks of excessive tiredness, 1 to 1.5 weeks of happiness, then back to insomnia. This time the insomnia has lasted longer.

Answer of our experts

If you are agreeable to pursuing the use of medications, Melatonin, Trazodone, Amitryptiline, Lithium, or Depakote are just some of the things we try for people who have episodic sleep disturbance
