Life expectancy

Question

We are in the process of setting up a trust for our daughter with CdLS. What is the life expectancy for individuals with CdLS?

Answer of our experts

The life span of individuals with CdLS, as with other individuals, depends upon their level of care and general health. A person with CdLS is generally more susceptible to both accidents and common illnesses if they have no existing medical problems. Therefore, their life expectancy would be somewhat shortened over the random, unaffected person. Although life expectancy for both affected and unaffected individuals is lengthening with better medical care, it would be fair to estimate their life span is 10-20 years shorter than others, assuming no existing medical problem at the time of the estimate
